Vanessa J. Akello, MSW/RCWA, Mental Health Therapist

Hi, I am an experienced registered clinical social worker in Alberta and Ontario, a clinical supervisor, and a 4th-year doctoral candidate in clinical psychology. I have been helping individuals, couples, and families access tools and skills to change their lives for over 15 years. My expertise is in attachment and neurodiversity, where I work with those struggling with trauma (acute stress and PTSD), depression, anxiety, anger problems, substance use difficulties, relationship and communication issues, and life transition challenges.

My approach is conversational and empathic, but when needed, I am not afraid to be direct to deal with a challenging topic, make progress to the next stage of healing, or when there is more than one person in the room.

My trainings include Emotionally Focused Therapy (couples, individuals, families); Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Narrative Theory, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Solutions-Focused Therapy. I also have experience working with teens and children using play therapy (Therapy, Sand tray, Synergetic Play Therapy, EFFT), depending on their complexity and needs.
